Role Overview
The Power System Applications team has a short-term opportunity as a Data Centre Technician. The role holder will be responsible for providing support to the operation of the data centers, in particular, communications networking and power distribution, two data centers in the Dublin area.

Key Responsibilities
• Ensure the operational reliability of communications circuits terminating in the data centers through the provision of front line support services including preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, circuit testing, protocol analysis and basic equipment/cable repair
• Provide front-line support for power services in the data centres including the installation of power distribution equipment in cabinets, the connection of devices to power sources and the monitoring of UPS health and capacity
• Liaise as necessary with the company’s communications service providers in the delivery, commissioning and higher level support of communications circuits
• Oversee the installation and termination of premises data cabling (e.g. Cat 5a, Cat 6, fibre) and carry out cable patching as required
• Install communication devices, such as termination equipment, switches, splitters, routers or other hardware in designated cabinets
• Document and maintain operational procedures relating to operational communications services
• Work with Employee Services and Infrastructure departments in the wider maintenance and development of the data centers

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the installation, operation and maintenance of communications circuits and a variety of data centre equipment such as multiplexors, termination devices, network switches and routers
• Strong technical knowledge of communications circuits and protocols
• Familiarity with power distribution equipment and basic electrical engineering concepts
• Strong communications skills to enable explanation of complex technical processes in simple language for other IT professionals
• Skilled in conducting tests to identify and fix faults in a computer/network system
• A proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable: 
• Certification from recognised IT Service Provider company
• ITIL service management training
• Experience of data networking, particular in the monitoring, maintenance and support of IP circuits
• Experience of installing and maintaining servers or storage equipment
